Lip Service The New York, N.Y., Metropolitan Transportation Authority accepted a bus placard ad campaign from Akademiks clothing company promoting reading. Well, that’s what they thought the slogan “Read Books, Get Brain” meant. To high-school-aged kids, “get brain” is slang for oral sex, and MTA officials were steamed when they were clued in. “I don’t think any kid is going to say, ‘If I read “A Tale of Two Cities” I’m going to get sex’,” says the ad’s designer. “They aren’t stupid.” But the ads are being pulled from buses. “It’s sad that a company and its advertising agency would appear to be promoting a good cause while instead using vulgar street phrases to demean women,” said an MTA spokesman.
